Selected for you is this selection from the 2013 futurist “Catalyst” thesis by Harry Bentham: “Considering ease of travel and ease of communication, it is easy to say that borders are becoming porous and we are all already neighbors, as a result of what has been called time-space compression. This “global village” has led to our much greater global awareness and a huge level of cross-cultural understanding not previously known. This is true even if people have continued to omit their global awareness from much of their long-term political thinking, and still hold numerous mistaken or dated ideas about the world and how it should progress. It is reasonable to expect further social change with the inevitable universal spread of communication technology and the expansion of the internet. It is also possible to prepare for the proliferation and convergence of yet unrevealed liberating technologies in the coming decades, as already suggested in the previous chapter. With the internet and mobile phones already sufficiently incorporated in the human ‘political animal’, other gadgets are not far away from enhancing politics into something else altogether. Quite probably, such developments are going to lead to new kinds of regimes in the future, but it is hard to predict exactly what they might look like at present. They would come about as a result of the world-system ‘evolving’ and fluctuating, rather than our choices specifically, although our choices would impact this evolution as always. If the world was translated and communication became universal, this would represent an unprecedented awakening for humanity and a blow to all sectarianism and parochialism in the world. It would also allow for greater awareness of inequality in the world, and such a ‘transhuman’ development will make better political animals immune to schisms and differences.” WE HAVE SEEN POWER IN THE DNA OF OUR TECHNOLOGY. http://www.clubof.info/p/catalyst.html
